Losing Ground is a collection of new work by Mary Wong that explores the landscape as it is experienced by the human psyche, a vehicle that invokes beauty and the sublime through abstraction. In this vehicle themes of degradation and deterioration emerge almost as if pollution itself were a natural phenomenon - an incriminating irony directed at our own inaction in the face of the environment crisis. Wong’s palette is a mix of natural and synthetic-induced colours, reminiscent of chemical toxicity. The development of a painterly sedimentary aesthetic has been created to emphasize the struggle between decay and rebirth.
